Hurricane Dorian: Colleges Cancel Classes

TAMPA BAY, FL — In anticipation of Hurricane Dorian making landfall in Florida, college campuses throughout Tampa Bay are canceling classes on Tuesday.

Pasco-Hernando State College

All five campuses of Pasco-Hernando State College will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4. Normal operations are expected to resume on Thursday, Sept. 5, unless otherwise notified.

Saint Leo University

Saint Leo University has canceled classes at its main campus through Wednesday, Sept. 4. Also canceled are classes at the East Pasco Education Center (including those at the university’s Pasco-Hernando State College education offices) through Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The university anticipates resuming all normal operations at University Campus on Wednesday, Sept. 4, with the exception of classes, which will resume on Thursday, Sept. 5.

Students, faculty, and staff should check the Saint Leo University website for updates.

University of South Florida

The University of South Florida campuses in Tampa and St. Petersburg are closed through at least Tuesday, Sept. 3. Residence halls and residential dining facilities at USF Tampa and USF St. Petersburg will remain open. Only USF System employees who are classified as essential personnel and/or those identified by their supervisors as vital to campus operations should report to work while campuses are closed. St. Petersburg College

Florida Polytechnic University

Campus and university operations will be closed through Tuesday, Sept. 3. Check here for updates.

Hillsborough Community College

Classes are canceled through Tuesday. For updates, students and staff are urged to follow the school’s Hawk Alert system, and to make sure their contact information is current.

University of Tampa

“At this time there are no plans for operational changes at UT,” the school said. “Periodic advisories” will be posted on UT’s tropical weather page.

Eckerd College

Residence halls opened Friday and the fall semester was still scheduled to begin Monday. There are no plans yet for any closures. For updates, visit the school’s emergency preparedness page.

University of Central Florida
