Lake Park Sinkhole Limbo Continues
The Hillsborough County park has been closed since a sinkhole opened last week.

Tampa Bay area residents eager to gain access to Lake Park will have to wait a bit longer.
Hillsborough County officials say the park will remain closed until further notice as it works with the City of St. Petersburg to address a sinkhole that opened along one of its main roads last week. While the park is in Hillsborough’s Lutz area, the land is owned by the city of St. Petersburg, explained county spokeswoman Michelle VanDyke.
“The next step is to await their decision regarding remediation plans for the sinkhole,” VanDyke said. How soon that decision might be forthcoming remains unclear.

Hillsborough County announced last Wednesday that a 90-foot-deep hole had opened up at the 17302 N. Dale Mabry Highway park. Estimated to be about 6 feet across, the hole’s location on one of the main roads forced the closing.
Lake Park covers 589 acres in the northwest Hillsborough area. The park has playgrounds, trails and is home to an archery range, BMX track, picnic areas and other attractions.
