Pasco County will give away tree seedling at its Arbor Day celebration on Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon.

PASCO COUNTY, FL -- Pasco County invites the community to an Arbor Day Celebration on Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at the UF/IFAS Pasco County Extension One-Stop Shop at 15029 14th St. in Dade City.

As part of this celebration of trees, free redbud seedlings will be available, while supplies last.

“We believe the best way to show our love of trees is by sharing them with the community,” said Keep Pasco Beautiful coordinator Kristen King.

The seedling giveaways are made possible through a partnership with Pasco County, Keep Pasco Beautiful, Covanta Pasco and the UF/IFAS Pasco County Cooperative Extension.

At the celebration, Keep Pasco Beautiful will plant two trees in the community garden and master gardeners will offer educational seminars on backyard fruit trees, pruning trees and the proper planting of trees.

Approximately 600 seedlings will be handed out to the community to help remove remove CO2 and pollutants and keep metropolitan areas cooler. Trees also preserve soil by decreasing storm water run-off and they provide shade and shelter for animals.

Florida celebrates Arbor Day on the third Friday in January, a tradition that began in 1886.
