1-Pound Baby Defies Odds, Inspires Prayers

The little lady from Florida came into the world 3 months early and is now touching hearts around the world.

Channing Finch was only 28 weeks into her pregnancy when stomach pains sent her to the doctor’s office.

Those pains, as it turned out, were caused by her daughter, Lyriq, trying to make her way into the world three months early. When doctors discovered a lack of amniotic fluid and an abnormal growth rate, the situation turned dire. A few hours later, Lyriq showed signs of distress, forcing emergency action, the family’s GoFundMe page states.

Lyriq Finch was born by emergency C-section Jan. 8, weighing in at only 1 pound 6 ounces, according to ActionNewsJax. The baby was so tiny she fit into palms of adult hands, the station pointed out.

But, she was also determined.

Lyric is in the neonatal unit at Jacksonville’s Wolfson Children’s Hospital where she’s growing stronger and bigger. She’s not out of the woods yet, however, and doctors tell the Finches their daughter cannot go home until March, when she was originally due, WTSP reported.

Parents Patrick and Channing Finch aren’t alone in their vigil by Lyriq’s crib side. Family and friends have established a GoFundMe campaign to offset medical costs and there’s a Prayers for Lyriq Facebook page that provides updates on the tiny girl’s progress. Those prayers are pouring in from all over the world not only in the spoken form, but also courtesy of hundreds of prayer squares the family has received, the station reported.

So far, more than 100 squares have come in from people touched by Lyriq’s story. They’ve arrived from not only Jacksonville, but also England, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

The Finches received a bundle Wednesday from Winnipeg, Canada, the Facebook page indicates.

“Our family cannot show enough appreciation for all the support, love, donations, squares, shares and reaching out,” the Finches wrote on Lyriq’s Facebook page Thursday morning. “We are eternally grateful for each and every one of you from across the country and the world.”

Lyriq is growing stronger, the Facebook page indicates.

“Our little Lyriq is doing better today, god bless her,” her Facebook page indicated Wednesday night. “She was strong through the night. She did lose 10 grams but still holding strong at 1lb 12oz.”

Prayers, however, are still needed, the family says.
