HUDSON, FL — Two people were killed Wednesday when an SUV veered into oncoming traffic on U.S. 19.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, around 5:15 p.m. an 81-year-old woman from Maidens, Virginia, was driving south on U.S. 19 when she lost control of her SUV, veered into the median, struck a construction barrel and entered the northbound lanes. The SUV then struck a car headed north on U.S. 19, causing it to flip over.

The crash took place about 5:15 p.m. on U.S. 19 near Beach Boulevard.

A car driven by a 54-year-old Hudson man then crashed into the passenger side of the SUV, causing it to roll over.

A passenger in the SUV, a 52-year-old Hudson man, died at the scene. The driver of the car died at the hospital. The 81-year-old driver sustained serious injuries.
