2017 Chasco Fiesta Sports: What To Know Before You Go

Bowing, golf and running events are all part of the Chasco Fiesta festivities.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL – A big part of the Chasco Fiesta is raising money for local charities and non-profit organizations. Another big part of the nine-day event is having fun while raising money for local charities and non-profit organizations.

Five different sporting events will take place around Chasco Fiesta, helping to raise money for various causes in the West Pasco area. From hitting the links to hitting the pavement, there are several ways for people to participate and watch the fun of sports competition.

Chasco Fiesta Main Street Mile

The Chasco Fiesta Main Street Mile will take place Saturday, March 25 at noon on Main Street in New Port Richey. The event, sponsored by Big Dawg Runnin’, takes place immediately before the Chasco Fiesta Street Parade.

The 1-mile run/walk takes place in front of the thousands of parade spectators, making it one of the more exciting 1-mile run/walks in the area.

Although there are no age group awards for the event, each finisher will receive a Chasco Main Street Mile finisher medal upon crossing the finish line. However, the first person in each category that breaks the current record will win $100. If the winner attends school, a donation will be made to the winner’s school’s athletic department to maintain amateur status.

Staging for the Chasco Main Street Mile is at The Schwettman Education Center, 5520 Grand Blvd. Event organizers said for participants to be aware of the limited parking because of the parade, and to make sure to keep that in mind when traveling to the event.

The run is also an “out” course, meaning that the run does not loop around to finish at the start line. There will be no transportation back to the start line for participants.

Registration is currently $20 and ends March 23 at 11:59 p.m. Although receiving a T-shirt is not guaranteed at this point in the registration process, there is a no T-shirt option of registering for $12. There is also a timing fee of $1.

Chasco Fiesta Bowling Tournament

The eighth annual Chasco Fiesta Bowling Tournament will take place Tuesday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Lane Glo Bowl South, 8631 Old County Road 54 in New Port Richey. Registration for the tournament begins at 5:30 p.m.

Registration for the event, hosted by the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Group, is $160 per team of four or $40 for individuals. Individuals will be teamed up by the organizers. Spectators are welcome to attend as well.

The event will feature raffles, a spirit table and more. Participants are invited to bring a dessert for the event’s famous dessert table.

Chasco Fiesta Golf Tournament

The 16th annual Chasco Fiesta Golf Tournament will take place Friday, March 31 at Seven Springs Golf and Country Club, 3535 Trophy Blvd., Trinity.

The tournament, hosted by the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce, begins with registration at 11:30 a.m. There will be a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start.

Registration for a foursome is $500, which includes greens fees, cart, lunch, a goody bag, dinner, door prizes and a hole sponsor sign. Proper golf attire is required and metal spikes are not allowed.

Special Olympics 5K Fun Run

For the fourth straight year, the Special Olympics 5K Fun Run will help round out the Chasco Fiesta festivities. The event takes place on Saturday, April 1 at 8 a.m. at the New Port Richey Recreation & Aquatic Center, 6630 Van Buren St. The race runs through the residential areas of New Port Richey to Orange Lake and back to the rec center.

Registration for the 5K and the 1-Mile Walk is:

  • 5K Individual, open age group, $25 ($30 starting March 25)
  • 5K Pasco Students to age 22, $15 ($20)
  • 5K “I Run 4 Michael,” $25 ($30)
  • 5K Ainsley’s Angel Runners, $25 ($30)
  • 1-Mile Walk Individual, $5
  • 1-Mile Walk Family up to five members, $10
  • Virtual Runner, $25

Early packet pickup will take place on Friday, March 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the rec center. Day-of registration starts at 6:45 a.m. The 5K race begins at 8 a.m. and the 1-Mile walk starts at 8:45.

  • Awards will be given in the following categories in the 5K:
  • Top male/female finishers
  • Top 3 male/female standard age group
  • Top 3 male/female registered Special Olympics athlete
  • Top Ainsley’s Angel runner
  • Finisher award for all runners and walkers

The 5K race is chip-timed, and all participants will receive a finisher medal, an event shirt and goody bags.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics Florida – Pasco County to help provide year-round competition for Special Olympians.
