Beware of Debit Card Call Scam

Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies are warning folks to beware of a “phishing” scam where folks are receiving calls asking them to share their debit card information.

The Sheriff’s Office reports on its Facebook page that the people have received  automated calls claiming to be from the Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union. The call says the receiver’s debit card has been put on hold.

People are prompted to press 1 if they want to reactivate their card. They’re then asked to enter their 16-digit debit card number.

The Sheriff ‘s Office is urging people to just hang up if they receive a call like this.  Residents are asked to contact their financial institution if they are worried about fraud.

“Remember, financial institutions will NEVER contact you via a robo-call and request your personal, financial or identification information,” the agency says on its Facebook page.
