NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — A horse was killed and two people sustained serious injuries Wednesday when a car crashed into a horse-drawn carriage on Bowman Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 9:20 p.m., a horse-drawn carriage operated by a 26-year-old Spring Hill man accompanied by a 39-year-old Spring Hill man was heading west on Bowman Road approaching Milestone Drive when the carriage was overtaken by a Ford Focus driven by a 19-year-old Brooksville man.

The carriage had no tail lights so the driver of the Ford Focus wasn't able to see it traveling ahead and crashed into the rear of the carriage. The impact propelled the carriage onto the north shoulder of the road and killed the horse.
