Florida Big Foot Hunters Aided by $100,000 Research Grant

Just because they didn’t take home millions after appearing on Spike TV’s “10 Million Dollar Big Foot Bounty” reality show doesn’t mean two North Florida men are daunted in their quest to prove sasquatch exists.
In fact, David Lauer and his hunting partner Stacy Brown have had their efforts supercharged courtesy of a $100,000 grant they won for being the last team standing on the show. The two have used the money to purchase gear – lots of gear – to aid them in their mission to find the legendary creature. Their arsenal now includes cameras, night vision recorders, DNA testing kits, a dart gun and more, according to WTSP.
Lauer’s mission to find proof of big foot, also known as a skunk ape in Florida vernacular, began in 2009, the First Coast News reported. While out on a hunting trip, he encountered one, Lauer told the paper.

Brown and Lauer are members of The Sasquatch Hunters, a Florida group of likeminded folks who are out to prove skunk apes are real. The organization just staged the first-ever Florida Skunk Ape Conference in September and already has plans in the works for a repeat performance in 2015, according to its Facebook page. The first conference drew not only speakers including Brown and Lauer, but also Jeff Meldrum, a professor of anatomy at Idaho State University, and Tim Fasano, the top “bigfooter” on YouTube.
Lauer told First Coast News that 2009 sighting has sparked a passion that won’t be satisfied until he finds proof.
