Fundraiser Set Up For Family Of 7-Year-Old Killed By Motorcyclist

Friends and neighbors are raising funds for a Port Richey family reeling from the sudden death of a 7-year-old boy who was killed Saturday.

PORT RICHEY, FL — Friends and neighbors are raising funds for a Port Richey family reeling from the sudden death of a 7-year-old boy who was killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 9:23 p.m., the 7-year-old along with his mother and siblings were walking across Regency Park Boulevard at the intersection of King Arthur Boulevard when a motorcycle traveling north on Regency Park Boulevard at a high rate of speed struck the boy.

The child was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

On Sunday, the motorcyclist surrendered to FHP troopers at the Port Richey Police Department. Shaun Elliott Wyrich, 19, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death and no motorcycle endorsement. The motorcycle involved in the crash was recovered at a home on Fox Hollow Drive.

Deanna Leisner has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for funeral costs for the family of the 7-year-old. As of Monday, 176 people have contributed $6,480 toward the goal of $12,000.

Friends say the boy, a student at Chasco Elementary School, was looking forward to his eighth birthday in two weeks as well as Christmas.
