New Port Richey Approves E-Scooter Rental Program
Following on the heels of Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, the New Port Richey City Council approved a proposal for e-scooter rentals.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL —Following on the heels of Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, the New Port Richey City Council approved a proposal this week to allow electric scooter rentals in the city.
Scott Carbone, owner of eCarve at 5780 Main St., an electric scooter and onewheel sales and rental dealership, approached the council about launching a program to make it easier for visitors and residents to get around the city. On Tuesday, the council agreed to a micro mobility program with the stipulations that Carbone have liability insurance, provide helmets to renters of his e-scooters and have all e-scooters off the streets by 8:30 p.m.
“Our plans include rider education and a pledge that they wear helmets, understand and abide the laws, park responsibly and remain aware of their surroundings," said Carbone. "We want customers to have a fun and safe experience while visiting New Port Richey."

Touted as a convenient and environmentally friendly way to get around, e-scooter rental programs are becoming increasingly popular in cities across the country. Tampa has had a program in place since May. St. Petersburg is preparing a request for a proposal by e-scooter rental companies to participate in a one-year pilot program. And Clearwater city leaders are expected to vote in November on their own one-year pilot program for the e-scooter rentals.
“There’s so much to do and see in New Port Richey. Our e-scooters are a fun way to see the city and a great opportunity for other businesses in the area," said Carbone. "I plan to offer suggested routes where riders can tour our downtown and experience the great art murals, historic buildings and scenic parks. The scooters can easily go to the West Pasco Art Guild, Hacienda Hotel, West Pasco Historical Museum, Simms Park and then head to a restaurant at the other end of the city for lunch, ice cream or coffee."

Carbone is working with business owners interested in accommodating docking stations for e-scooters.
"We are looking forward to partnering with downtown businesses that will embrace our vision and see the potential in this new opportunity," Carbone said.
Carbone sells and rents electric scooters and onewheels. He rents the Segway 9bot Pro Max Scooter for $8 an hour with a minimum two-hour rental. It has a 250-watt motor that can last up to 40 miles on a single charge, app integration that can provide enhanced features and a lightweight aluminum frame that folds, making it convenient to store or carry.
“They are very user-friendly and can be easily operated by a diverse age group,” said Carbone.
Currently, e-scooters will be available to rent through reservations. Contact Carbone for availability and detailed information at 727-237-1690.
