River Flood Warning Issued for Parts of Pasco County

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service near Tampa issued a river flood warning for Cypress Creek through Saturday due to heavy rains.

The National Weather Service office near Tampa has issued a river flood warning for parts of Pasco County Wednesday.

Cypress Creek at Worthington Gardens is under a river flood warning until further notice.

Meteorologists forecast runoff from last week’s heavy rains combined with rainfall expected through the weekend will keep Cypress Creek above flood stage.

NWS defines flood stage as the time when the measured height of street flooding and “out of bank” waterway flooding is the same.

Flood stage for Cypress Creek is eight feet. The river was measured at nine feet as of 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The waterway is expected to crest at near 9.1 feet by Saturday morning then recede.

Flooding is expected inundate Wesley Chapel Boulevard near the Cypress Creek Preserve. Drivers planning to drive through the area are strongly advised to find an alternate route.
