‘Stuff the Bus’ Collects 8,000 Pounds Of Food

The annual Pasco County Stuff the Bus event helps provide food for The Volunteer Way.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL – While many people stuff turkeys this holiday season, the people of Pasco County banded together to stuff turkeys inside a bus for a good cause.

Pasco County Public Transportation announced county residents donated more than 8,000 pounds of food during the 2017 Stuff the Bus holiday food drive on Saturday, Nov. 18. Included in the donations were more than 100 turkeys, hams and chickens.

The donated food, which was gathered at locations in New Port Richey and Wesley Chapel, were given to The Volunteer Way Food Pantry. Individuals as well as community partners brought bags, shopping carts and even entire pallets of food during the event.

“We’re thrilled at how much food the annual drive collected from the community,” said Kurt Scheible, the director of Pasco County Public Transportation.

Pasco County Public Transportation specifically noted two organization during the Stuff the Bus event: the Chapel of Tarpon Springs, which donated a pallet of frozen turkeys, and Trinity Ultimate Fitness, which collected a large amount of food through its members.

The Volunteer Way, located at 8061 Congress St. in Port Richey, distributed the food to Pasco County seniors, children, adults and families in need.
