ICYMI: Tim Tebow Offered Baseball Contract by Bridgeport Bluefish

Breaking: Tim Tebow has been offered a baseball contract by the Bridgeport Bluefish in Connecticut.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Tampa Bay area Tim Tebow fans may get to see the athlete in action once more. This time around, however, the former NFL quarterback will be swinging a bat instead of tossing the pigskin.

This is, of course, if Tebow accepts a contract Connecticut's Bridgeport Bluefish minor league baseball team has offered for the 2016 season.

“The Bluefish welcome Tim with open arms,” said Bluefish General Manager Jamie Toole in a statement. “The Atlantic League is all about giving players opportunity, and we think Bridgeport would be a great place for him to begin his professional baseball career.”

Whether Tebow will accept the offer is not yet known, but he will be called up to the Bridgeport Bluefish roster, effective immediately if he accepts and signs the contract.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Tebow played three seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets, and won a Heisman award in college while playing quarterback for the University of Florida Gators.

The 29-year-old recently announced his desire to play professional baseball and was given the opportunity to participate in a workout in front of more than 40 Major League Baseball scouts on Tuesday. During his workout Tebow hit five home runs in batting practice and recorded an “above average” time in the 60-yard dash. Tim focused on showcasing his outfield skills during the workout, and also faced live pitching from former Major Leaguers David Aardsma and Chad Smith.

Reactions to Tebow's baseball skills ran the gamut from a "complete waste of time" from one scout to him showing he was "better than I expected" from another scout, reports USA Today.

The Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, an independent minor league, and play home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport. For more information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583), or visit www.BridgeportBluefish.com or www.atlanticleague.com.
