Watch: Eaglet Hatches on Christmas Day

The newborn and its family call Florida home.

Bald eagles get Christmas gifts, too.

At least that was the case in northeast Florida where a mating pair of the majestic birds welcomed an eaglet in time for the holiday. The entire hatching process was caught on camera, courtesy of the American Eagle Foundation. That organization has strategically placed three cameras on the nest shared by new parents Romeo and Juliet.

Juliet laid two eggs in November and those eaglets emerged over the last week. The first hatched Tuesday while the second baby came into the world at 2:56 p.m. Christmas Day, according to the foundation’s website. Both hatchings were captured on film.

The nonprofit, Tennessee-based group seeks to develop and conduct bald eagle and environmental recovery programs in America, according to its website. It also assists private, state and federal projects with the same mission. The group plans to host a naming contest for the Florida eaglets in the coming weeks. It also intends to keep its live cams rolling so fans can watch the babies as they grow up and develop.
