WATCH: Grouper Swallows 4-Foot Shark in 1 Bite

A fisherman out of Bonita Springs caught the Goliath grouper in action.

When it comes to whopper fish tales, a Florida man’s story might just take the prize. And, he’s got the video to prove it.

The man was fishing off Bonita Springs recently, according to CBS news, when he landed a 4-foot, black tip shark. Bagging that catch, however, was not meant to be. As the shark neared the boat, a Goliath grouper swam up and swallowed it in a single gulp.

The entire interaction with nature was caught on film that was posted by YouTube user Gimbb14 on that social media site. The film has received more than 2.7 million views since it was posted Tuesday.

Goliath grouper can grow up to 800 pounds. The record catch in Florida came in at 680 pounds, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. That catch was made off Fernandina Beach back in 1961. The fish, however, is considered a prohibited species. That means it’s illegal harvest and possess them. Those that are caught, must be returned to the water “free, alive and unharmed,” the state’s website says.
