BROOKHAVEN, GA — City officials and residents broke ground Friday on Brookhaven's new public safety and municipal court building. More than 100 people attending the groundbreaking on Briarwood Road alongside the Peachtree Creek greenway.
The new facility will be completed in early 2021. Over 33,000 square feet in size, it will be twice as big as the current police/court facility and feature room to grow for both the police department and municipal court.
The construction cost for the new building is estimated to be $15 million with an additional $3 million for furnishings, fixtures equipment, project management and other expenses related to moving into a new facility. The city already owned the property where the building will be located. The property was acquired with funds from the community investment agreement with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, announced in December 2017.
