The tree was moved from the right-of-way in the Brookhaven Forest subdivision currently under development. The park will be the tree’s new home, said city arborist Kay Evanovich.

“We’re very pleased that this beautiful tree can be re-located and enjoyed by our community for years to come,” said Evanovich. And we’re grateful to our collaborator Native Tree for their expertise in transplanting and preserving it.”

Mayor Pro Tem Rebecca Chase Williams read the city’s proclamation observing the official state Arbor Day and Native Tree demonstrated the proper method of transplanting a large tree.

Tree saplings were given away to residents at the ceremony, which had been rescheduled from last month due to the winter storm.
