Brookhaven Police Arrest Man For Attempted Kidnapping, Stalking

Ian McGhee, 43, was arrested Thursday for attempting to kidnap a Brookhaven woman walking along North Druid Hills Road.

BROOKHAVEN, GA — Brookhaven police arrested a man for attempting to kidnap a woman walking along North Druid Hills Road on Thursday.

Brookhaven police and investigators were called to North Druid Hills Road near Briarwood Road around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a Friday news release from the Brookhaven Police Department. Police met with a woman who said a man pulled his car up beside her several times while she was walking along North Druid Hills Road, and attempted to talk to her.

After she ignored the man and moved to another part of the road, she said he repositioned his car, got out while flashing a metal badge, and tried to grab her. She was able to escape and the man drove off.

Officers arrested Ian Christian McGhee, a 43-year-old Brookhaven resident, around 6 p.m. Thursday after police identified the suspect car and vehicle tags from video evidence. He is charged with criminal attempt to commit kidnapping and stalking.

McGhee had an "emergency medical technician" badge at the time of his arrest, police said. He was driving a white Dodge Challenger with "very heavy rear-end damage."

In addition to the charges from the Brookhaven Police Department, McGhee was also charged with harassing phone calls by the Chamblee Police Department on Thursday. This charge stems from a separate incident that took place in Chamblee police's jurisdiction, the release said.
