
A Brookhaven resident said she's not convinced an Atlanta city council plan to build a new $1 billion stadium for the Atlanta Falcons is necessary.
"I'm not totally convinced that we need it. I think the Falcons did well this year, but I think it's more of a fad," Elizabeth Felker of Brookhaven told CBS Atlanta last week.

Members of the citizens' lobby group, Common Cause, spent Independence Day collecting signatures for a petition to allow voters to decide on public financing of the Falcon's proposed new stadium.
William Perry, executive director of Common Cause in Georgia, said "Atlanta is one of the few NFL cities with this much public funding [of new stadium construction] without a public vote, and we think the people of Atlanta should decide."
In March, Atlanta city council approved plans to construct the $1 billion stadium to replace the Georgia Dome in downtown. A hotel-motel tax will be levied to pay for a $200 million construction bond.
