Cross Keys Foundation to Host Civic Forum

The two-part event is set for Tuesday, March 19.

The Cross Keys Foundation is hosting a two-part civic forum regarding both public education and the city of Brookhaven.

The event will be held in the cafeteria of Cross Keys High School at 1626 North Druid Hills Road, on Tuesday, March 19. Early arrivals will be able to interact with local civic, non-profit, and student groups between 5:30-6:00pm. The joint Civic Forum will begin at 6:00pm. The event is open to the public.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide a forum for officials of the DeKalb County School District and the city of Brookhaven to hear from stakeholders in the Cross Keys community and to provide updates on critical events, initiatives, and deliberations of consequence.

Marshall Orson, Board of Education, District 2, and other officials of DeKalb schools will be present. Mayor J. Max Davis and Councilman Joe Gebbia, District 4, of the city of Brookhaven and other city representatives as well as local and state officials will participate.

“For years folks have talked about the need for greater engagement with our community. It is encouraging to see the officials both of DeKalb Schools and the city of Brookhaven acting on it,” said Kim Gokce, who will moderate the
discussions as president of the sponsoring organization.

The foundation, formed in 2009, supports the seven schools of the Cross Keys High School attendance area and over six thousand five hundred students. Three of the schools - Cross Keys High School, Woodward Elementary, and Montclair Elementary - serve over 3,000 students each year in the Brookhaven municipality.
