DeKalb Krogers Helping Dole, Phillip Phillips With Food Banks

You can help the Let Sunshine In, Drive Hunger OutCampaign at these DeKalb Kroger locations starting on Thursday.

ATLANTA, GA --Feeding America’s Hunger in America report states that 1 in 7.5 people in the Atlanta area rely on food banks to feed their families. Since hunger relief efforts are so vital for the Atlanta area, Dole Packaged Foods, Kroger and multi-platinum artist Phillip Phillips have teamed up on the Let Sunshine In, Drive Hunger OutCampaign to help residents in need this winter. On Thursday, November 15, shoppers at Kroger locations across Atlanta can help those less fortunate by purchasing Dole Pineapple cans. For every can purchased, Dole will provide one can to a community food bank.

The Let Sunshine In, Drive Hunger Out Campaign is part of Dole's hunger relief efforts, with the company donating 1.5 million pounds of healthy food each year to support families in need.

An estimated 755,400 people in metro Atlanta and north Georgia turn to food pantries and meal service programs to feed themselves and their families each year. This includes more than 164,000 children and more than 64,000 seniors. Each week, the Feeding America network serves 5.4 million individuals. The Food Bank has been a member of the Feeding America network since 1979.

For the Atlanta Community Food Bank service area, the report shows that 80,600 people are served each week by programs supported through the Food Bank, and that those clients turn to the Food Bank partner programs and pantries for help more than 6.1 million times over the course of the year. This means clients are visiting the Food Bank network programs an average of 8 times a year.
