Don't miss Capitol City Opera's production of "La Traviata"
A timeless tale of love and heartbreak featuring some of opera's most-loved repertoire.

Capitol City Opera Company will present Verdi's La traviata on Friday, March 23 at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 24 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. at Conant Performing Arts Center at Oglethorpe University.
La traviata is an opera in three acts by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi that originally premiered in Venice in 1853. It is based on the true romance of writer Alexandre Dumas and Marie Duplessis, who was a French courtesan who passed away tragically from tuberculosis. She was the subject of many of his works, and their failed romance has been retold in many genres over the years.
To this day, La traviata (or “the fallen woman”) is one of the most-revered and widely-produced operas in the world. The opera marked a large step forward for Verdi in his quest to express new, dramatic ideas in composition. It features some of the most challenging music in the entire soprano repertoire; the aria “Sempre libera” at the end of Act I is especially well known.
