Hurricane Irma: Tropical Storm Warning Issued For Brookhaven, DeKalb

As Hurricane Irma approaches, a storm watch has been issued for Brookhaven and parts of DeKalb.

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- As the effects of Hurricane Irma push into metro Atlanta Monday, a number of municipalities have closed down. Brookhaven's offices and recreation centers will be closed on Monday.

"City employees who are not required to respond to emergency conditions do not have to report to work," Brookhaven spokesperson Burke Brennan said in a news release. "All City meetings, events and other activities that are not related to Hurricane Irma are canceled and will be rescheduled."

“In an abundance of caution for our employees and our residents, all City administrative functions will be suspended on Monday,” said City Manager Christian Sigman. “This does not apply to the police, public works and communications departments. They are expected to be on call 24/7.”

Irma, weakening but still angry, slashed Miami Sunday morning before bearing down on Naples and Fort Myers. Florida's Gulf Coast side was inundated with perilously high storm surges.

Tropical storm-force winds are expected to thrash Georgia and parts of metro Atlanta for much of Monday.
