MARTA Police to Honor One of Their Own in Motorcycle Ride

The Saturday ride will honor Officer Anthony Rushin who was injured in a severe car crash in June.

Members of the MARTA Police Department along with members of other Atlanta motorcycle clubs are banding together in a motorcycle ride Saturday, Aug. 24 from Lakewood/Fort McPherson Station to Killer Creek Harley-Davidson in Roswell to benefit MARTA Police Officer Anthony Rushin, who was injured in a severe car crash while off duty in June.

"We want him to see our brotherhood coming together to give him support as he recovers," said MARTA Police Officer Natalie Johnson, who has been leading support efforts for Rushin. "We want to help out financially, but also to lift his spirits."

The riders will leave from the east parking lot of Lakewood/Fort McPherson Station Murphy Avenue SW at Deshler Street SW (opposite Lee Street SW) at 3:30 p.m. and head to Killer Creek Harley-Davidson, 11480 Alpharetta Highway, Roswell, arriving after 4:15 p.m.

Rushin was severely injured in an accident June 7 on Moreland Avenue while off duty. He spent a long time in recovery at Grady Memorial Hospital and recovered to the point where he was transferred to the Shepherd Center for further treatment.

Rushin has been with MARTA since 2000.
