In Sandy Springs, a key intersection was forced to close due to flooding. Officials said that they would have to check the structural integrity of the roadway at Windsor Parkway and Northside Drive due to the extreme amount of water.
Strong storms were likely later in the evening, the Weather Service said, adding that the primary hazards will be gusty winds, lightning and heavy rains. Because of the steady downpours, flooding in parts of metro Atlanta would be expected, the agency said.
