New PDK Hangars Costing $3 Million More Than Expected
Originally budgeted for $5 million, their cost has ballooned to more than $8 million.
DeKalb-Peachtree Airport Director Mike Van Wie told the Buckhead Business Association last week that construction has begun on more than 50 new hangars at the airport.
The Reporter Newspapers also said the project is costing more than the original $5 million budget because of federal environmental regulations. Total construction costs will be around $8.3 million.
But Van Wie touted the airport's economic benefits, saying the facility generates $39.9 million in tax revenue to DeKalb and creates more than 1,800 jobs.

Van Wie also criticized President Obama's position that corporate jets are unneccessary luxuries.
He said the 'No Plane No Gain' advocacy program is a joint effort between the National Business Aviation Association and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, and was formed in reaction to Obama's criticism of the general aviation industry.
