Proposed Peachtree Creek Greenway on City Council's Tuesday Night Agenda

The proposed project would create 12 miles of green areas and trails, connecting five communities to each other and the Atlanta Beltline.

The Brookhaven City Council could potentially vote on Tuesday evening on the plans for the Peachtree Creek Greenway, a 12-mile "linear park" that would connect Brookhaven to the Atlanta Beltline, winding through several communities.

The proposed trail would stretch from DeKalb through areas like Doraville, Chamblee and Brookhaven to the Atlanta Beltline. It would follow the North Fork Peachtree Creek and connect five metro communities to each other and to the beltline, officials say.

As AJC.com reports, earlier this year, the council hired Heath & Lineback Engineers to craft a master plan for the greenway, which they envisioned as "an integrated system of multi-use and natural trails along the North Fork Peachtree Creek.”

Channel 2 Action News reports that Brookhaven's portion of the trail would be about 2.7 miles long, and would cost around $35 million, which officials say would come from a variety of sources including federal and state funding, as well as private donations. Citizens can donate to the project through its dedicated website, via PayPal and credit card.

The greenway project will be discussed as part of the evening's agenda for the Brookhaven City Council meeting on Tuesday evening, Aug. 23.
