Right Before our Eyes - Canterbury Court wants to DOUBLE in SIZE!
An Open Letter to Oppose the Canterbury Court Plans for Expansion and Ask Them to Revise!

Dear Members of the NPU, city leadership, neighbors and community members,
We write to you as residents of the Historic Brookhaven neighborhood to oppose Canterbury Court’s application for rezoning. The Application seeks to add several hundred thousand square feet of medical services and residential space and over twenty stories of new construction literally in our backyards. Canterbury Court seeks to increase its occupancy by 80%. The impact on our precious neighborhood will be irreparable.
While we, the neighbors, have utmost respect for the mission of Canterbury Court to provide continuing care to the aging, their plans are not appropriate in scale, density, location or infrastructure. Allowing the proposed redevelopment to go forward will severely harm our historic neighborhood in the following ways:

- Property values of those homes on Vermont and Club Drive will plummet once they fall in the shadows of the 75 foot, 96.10 foot, and 56 foot story buildings along our yards.
- Traffic counts on Club Drive will increase as additional employees and residents use Club as a cut through to and from the new facilities.
- Increase Noise will emanate from the massive mechanicals that will be added to serve the new buildings (Generators, HVAC equipment, etc.)
- Light pollution from the new buildings will infect adjacent and nearby homes;
- Privacy cherished by the adjacent and proximate neighbors will be lost as residents in the twin towers will be able to look down into the backyards and houses of those homes.
- Exacerbate the already alarming nuisance created by unabated stormwater run-off despite years of adjacent neighbors pleading with the owners of Canterbury Court to honor its obligations and stop harming its neighbors.
- Basic blight of turning a historic neighborhood into an industrial-looking, clinical feeling, characterless institution. Our views will go from trees, sunlight and blue skies to hulking buildings towering over our backyards and bedroom windows.
These inevitable harms could be avoided by relocating the bulk of this new development up to Peachtree where it belongs. With the acquisition of two apartment complexes on Peachtree Road, Canterbury Court has extensive land to develop on Peachtree. Canterbury has been asked to relocate the density and has refused to do so. They have offered a few ceremonial concessions, and failed to take the majority of our concerns into account.
Please protect our homes and neighborhood.
