Second Clairmont Road Meeting Road Slated For Wednesday

The meeting will be held at Brookhaven city, and is the second meeting to discuss the future of Clairmont Road.

BROOKHAVEN, GA — A second public meeting on the Clairmont Road special area plan has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Brookhaven city hall, hosted by District 2 Councilman John Park and open to the public. The first meeting was held on Aug. 14. The special area plan is a joint effort between Brookhaven and Chamblee and includes Clairmont Road from
Buford Highway to Peachtree-DeKalb Airport.

“The primary goal of this meeting is to share with the public progress-to-date on the Clairmont
study,” said Park. “Since 2016, there have been multiple planning studies for the City that have
recommended a vision study of the Clairmont Road corridor. The purpose of the joint study
between the two cities is to create a unified and cohesive vision for Clairmont Road that meets
the needs of both Brookhaven and Chamblee.”

The Clairmont Road special area plan project was identified in the 2017 planning commission work program and approved by the city council as an action item based on the city’s original comprehensive plan recommendations. Input from the public about the corridor was also received in working with a consultant team as part of the character area study of 2016.

Specifically, the comprehensive plan identified the constraints and opportunities for the corridor
and the character area study further refined the vision for the area, including formation of “big
ideas” for future redevelopment. Clairmont has also been a focus area in other planning
documents such as the bicycle, pedestrian and trail plan.

The study has four distinct goals, according to Patrice Ruffin, Brookhaven's director of
community development. “We hope to create a consistent streetscape design for both cities
within the corridor and improve multi-modal connectivity,” she said. “Effort will also be made to
leverage existing economic assets and create a vision for areas in need of redevelopment. We
will also work to coordinate improvements with Chamblee that will be mutually beneficial for
both municipalities.”
