SLIDESHOW: Capitol City Opera's LA TRAVIATA Opens March 23rd!
Production runs through March 25th at the Conant Performing Arts Center at Oglethorpe University.
Atlanta's Capitol City Opera Company will present Giuseppe Verdi's La traviata on Friday, March 23 at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 24 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. at the Conant Performing Arts Center at Oglethorpe University. Tickets are available online at CCITYOPERA.org.
La traviata is an opera in three acts by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi that originally premiered in Venice in 1853. It is based on the true romance of writer Alexandre Dumas and Marie Duplessis, who was a French courtesan who passed away tragically from tuberculosis. She was the subject of many of his works, and their failed romance has been retold in many genres over the years. To this day, La traviata (or “the fallen woman”) is one of the most-revered and widely-produced operas in the world.
True to its mission to provide Atlanta-area classically trained singers the opportunity to perform on a professional stage, Capitol City Opera’s production features a full cast of Atlanta-based performers including Julia Metry as Violetta Valery, Justin Stolz as Alfredo Germont, Jadrian Tarver as Giorgio Germont, and Amanda Perera as Flora Bervoix. This production is directed by CCOC’s Artistic Director Michael Nutter. Music Direction is by Catherine Giel. A six-piece chamber orchestra is conducted by Michael Giel.
