BROOKHAVEN, GA — A man stabbed a woman who was walking along the Peachtree Creek Greenway over the weekend with her 3-year-old son — and the 34-year-old victim was also five months pregnant.

The unnamed woman had to have an emergency C-section following the stabbing, Brookhaven Police Department spokesperson Lt. David Snively told Patch.

"The newborn is in the NICU [Newborn Intensive Care Unit] and expected to remain hospitalized for several months. The victim is expected to remain hospitalized for several more days," Snively said.

The victim was walking with her 3-year-old son along the greenway Saturday around 5:30 p.m. The suspect approached the victim and attempted to talk to her.

As she walked away, the male suspect stabbed her in the back. She sustained serious injuries and, according to a GoFundMe campaign raising money for her medical bills, had to have surgery to repair her organs. Her son was not hurt.
