West Midtown 'Feel' Envisioned for Chamblee Plaza

The Chamblee Business Association heard from the shopping center's new owners on Thursday, as plans were unveiled for the complex's redevelopment.

Chamblee Plaza's new owners unveiled plans for more than $3 million worth of renovations to local business executives on Thursday morning.

"We hope to begin the redevelopment efforts by this summer," Dave Henzlik of Trinity Development Group told a standing-room-only audience of the Chamblee Business Association.

Trinity Development Group bought the complex for about $4 million last year.

"We want a West Midtown/Virginia Highland feel to the complex," Henzlik said.

Plans include:

  • All new landscaping and architectural facades;
  • Connecting Broad Street from across Peachtree Boulevard into the plaza with a landscaped entrance;
  • Redesigning the overall plaza into two 'elbows' at both ends of the shopping center, with a large retail area in the center. Pathways and landscaping would divide the three portions of the plaza;
  • A 'culinary center' with a fire pit and greenspace nearby;
  • A water tower or clock tower to mark the entrance into the culinary center;
  • Wider sidewalks that exit onto Chamblee Tucker Road. "We want people to eat in the culinary center and then walk up the hill to support and attend Chamblee High School events such as football games," Henzlik said.

Trinity has also purchased the Citgo gas station property at the north end of the plaza. The IHOP and Chick-fil-A, he said, would remain unchanged, since both have undergone recent renovations and grand openings over the last year or so.

"We also are working with the city to upgrade Chamblee Plaza's signage," he said.
