2 Catalytic Converter Thefts in Avondale Estates

Police said the parts were taken off autos Wednesday night at the Condos of Avondale Estates.

The catalytic converter thieves who struck Decatur and Atlanta last month have expanded into Avondale Estates.

The Avondale Estates police issued an alert Thursday saying that the parts were taken off two cars Wednesday night. The alert says,

 Avondale Estates Police Department has responded to two reports of stolen catalytic converters in the Condos of Avondale Estates. The thefts likely occurred overnight and were taken from automobiles in their parking areas. No known suspects. The converters are part of the exhaust system and are located on the undercarriage of a vehicle. The part is often stolen because it often contains a very small amount of a precious metal. Anyone witnessing suspicious activity around automobiles (or anywhere else) is urged to call 911 immediately.

Last month, catalytic converters were taken off seven vehicles in 72 hours in Decatur. Atlanta police said an even larger number were reported stolen.
