Here are the top three stories in Decatur-Avondale Estates today:
- A reduction in school enrollment is impacting the Dekalb County School District's ability to hire new teachers as budget allocations are modified. At the Board of Education's June 6 meeting, Dr. Tekshia Ward-Smith stated that some schools were determined to need fewer teachers because of the decrease in enrollment over the last two years. Ward-Smith said that all teachers who have been extended contracts will still be offered jobs, but the school they work for may change. (Decaturish.com )
- Police are investigating a shooting that took place outside of the Dollar General on the 4300 block of Snapfinger Woods Drive on Tuesday morning. The shooting left one person wounded. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- The Eagles Run Apartments, where a woman fell after a concrete balcony collapsed last weekend, has more than two dozen code enforcement violations. The owners of the property will appear in the DeKalb County Magistrate Court on July 26. Attorney Steve McConnell said the woman's mother fell through the same hole, landing on top of her daughter.
