8 Residents Displaced In Decatur Apartment Fire
A fire broke out in the basement of a Decatur apartment building Wednesday morning at the intersection of Sycamore Place and Ponce.
DECATUR, GA — Eight Decatur residents were displaced after a fire erupted in the basement of their two-story apartment building Wednesday morning.
Around 8:30 a.m., the fire broke out at the apartments at the intersection of Ponce de Leon Avenue and Sycamore Place, according to Vera Morrison, deputy chief of the Decatur Fire Department. No one was injured in the fire, but several units were damaged by smoke, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Firefighters found smoke coming from the bottom corner of the 12-unit building. The fire appeared to have started in the basement and most residents had already evacuated.

The AJC reported that eight residents were displaced and three of the 12 units were vacant. Volunteers from the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced residents.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
