Adult Education Program Expanded In DeKalb County Schools
DeKalb County School District recently expanded the program to help adults earn a GED, get English language services and other offerings.
DEKALB COUNTY, GA — More adults will be able to earn a GED, obtain English language acquisition services, family literacy and support for post-secondary learning through the DeKalb County School District.
The Technical College System of Georgia's Office of Adult Education chose the district as an adult education provider for 500 adult learners, according to a district news release — a 900 percent increase from the 50 adults the program previously served, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"The district remains committed to meeting the needs of our families, to include parents and siblings of our students,” DCSD Board of Education Chair Vickie Turner said in the release. “When you educate a student, you are educating a family, and it’s obvious that DeKalb County School District understands this very well."

DCSD's Adult Education Program aims to provide various opportunities that will offer support as a springboard for adult learners to higher education, better-paying jobs and rewarding career paths, the release said.
“We are thrilled to provide these services to hundreds of adult learners. It is our mission to inspire our community of learners to achieve educational excellence, and that includes adult learners,” DCSD Superintendent Cheryl Watson-Harris said.
