DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Macy's at The Gallery at South DeKalb will no longer be in business in a few months. The department store will close in the spring, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The company has not announced an exact closing date, but said there will be a clearance sale beginning this month and lasting two to three months.

The decision to shut it down came after “careful consideration,” Macy’s spokeswoman Lauren Vocelle tells the AJC.

“The decision to close a store is always a difficult business decision. In today’s retail space, we continuously review our brick-and-mortar locations, evaluate opportunities to maximize value and ensure the sustainable, long-term growth and success of our store business,” she said.

Nationally, locations have been closing, says the outlet. Stores at Northlake Mall, Lenox Square mall, Gwinnett Place Mall and The Mall at Stonecrest will remain open, said Vocelle. The Macy’s at North DeKalb Mall closed in 2016.

According to the AJC, there have been store closures across south Dekalb in the recent past. A Stonecrest Sam’s Club abruptly closed in early 2018. Also, both Sears and Kohl’s closed, as well as a Target in 2014.
