Decatur Bartender And New Hire Get $15K Each From Ellen

Ellen surprised both women with $15,000 checks each. They were invited on after a video went viral of the new employee dancing in the lot.

DECATUR, GA — A young woman was caught on camera doing a victory dance after a successful job interview in Decatur. The viral video caught the attention of talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Ellen invited Kallayah Jones, the employee, and Dakara Spence, the owner, on her show. They both received a surprise.

“We learned that you both want to go back to school," DeGeneres said Monday. “... You’re both just so inspiring, so we want to give you both something to have a happy dance about. We want to give each of you a check for $15,000."

Jones explained during the segment that the job meant the world to her. She was homeless for two years and was not able to dress up for the interview. While dancing in the parking lot of The Spot Sports Bar And Grill, 4975 Flat Shoals Pkwy in Decatur, she didn’t realize a security camera was recording. After seeing the video, Spence posted it to social media and it took off.

“I wanted people to know that just because you’re going through a hard time doesn’t mean that you can give up,” Jones said on the show. “You can still dance your way through life and still act like nobody’s watching, and I promise someone is going to watch you, and you’ll be OK.”
