Decatur Native Competing In 'Survivor: Island Of The Idols'

Air Force vet Missy Byrd is a contestant in the upcoming "Survivor: Island of the Idols," premiering this month on CBS.

DECATUR, GA — A 24-year-old Decatur native is among the 20 contestants competing in the newest season of "Survivor." Missy Byrd is a member of the Lairo tribe in "Survivor: Island of the Idols," the latest edition of the Emmy Award-winning reality series that challenges players to outwit, outplay, and outlast their opponents. The season premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 8 pm on CBS and CBS All Access.

According to Byrd's Survivor bio, the U.S. Air Force veteran currently lives in Tacoma, Washington. She describes herself as "relentless, clever, and decently dope." She likes hiking, traveling and discovering other cultures, with her proudest accomplishment is "always finding a way to travel the world regardless of budget. We all deserve to see what's out there."

The new season of "Survivor" features two previous winners, Boston Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine, who return to the game to serve as mentors to a group of 18 new players. Combined, Boston Rob and Sandra have played over 200 days in this game and plan to share their knowledge with the new castaways. During the 39 days, these new players will visit the Island of the Idols and learn skills and strategy from these "idols."
