Decatur Woman Came Home During Burglary

She said the burglar fled on foot. Decatur police have investigated other burglaries.

A woman who lives in 400 block of Clairemont Avenue told Decatur police she came home while her house was being burglarized.

The woman said she walked in the back door of her house about 3:15 p.m May 30 and heard somebody trying to kick in the front door. She saw the suspect in the front bedroom but he fled the scene on foot.

She described him as a slender black male with a dark complexion, 20-25 years old and approximately 5-foot-9 and about 150 pounds. He was wearing dark blue shorts, a gray tank top and carrying a blue backpack.

Police also reported these other burglaries.

1000 block of East Ponce de Leon Avenue. On June 4, a woman said she left about 11:15 a.m. and returned at 12:35 p.m. to find her front door forced open. Nothing was reported missing.

200 block of Pinehurst Street. On June 4, a residence was burglarized between 11:15 and 11:45 a.m. A rear door on the side of the house was forced open. The resident was unsure if anything was stolen.

500 block of Oakview Road. A residence was broken into between 9:50 and 10:08 a.m. June 3. A burglar alarm was activated and brought officers to the scene. The front door and front window were open when officers arrived. Taken were two flat screen televisions, worth $1,400 and $1,000. A neighbor said she saw a white van speeding down Oakview Road.

600 block of South Candler Street. On June 2, somebody kicked in the door of a residence and stole a 60-inch television worth $2,200, a 40-inch television worth $400 and a HP laptop worth $1,100.

200 block of Woodlawn Avenue. The house was burglarized between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. May 30 when somebody broke through French doors. Stolen were two iPads, two laptops and pearl and crystal necklaces.

1000 block of South Candler Street. A man called police May 27 to say he checked on a neighbor's house and found the rear door open and the interior disheveled. Since the resident was out of town, it was unknown if anything was stolen.

 400 block of Pharr Road. The resident left at 11:15 a.m May 22 and returned at 5:30 p.m. to find the side door open. Two gold watches were reported missing.

200 block of Gordon Street. Between May 17-21, lawn care items were taken from a shed, including shears, saw, machete, recycling bags and a lawn sprinkler.
