Decatur Police Arrest Man Leaving Burgled Apartment

Officers apprehended the suspect coming out of a residence on Hillcrest Avenue.

This information comes from Decatur police reports.

Police officers went to an apartment in the 300 block of Hillcrest Avenue around 3 p.m. April 22 after somebody reported hearing a breaking sound in the rear of an apartment.

Police surrounded the apartment and noticed broken glass in the back door. A man came out the back door, saw the officers, and tried to leave through the front door. Police apprehended him.

Ocatvius R. Heard, 18, of Ellenwood was charged with burglary and placed in the DeKalb County Jail.

Money, watches reported missing. A resident of an apartment in the 700 block of Atlanta Avenue reported $419 in cash and two watches were stolen when he went out April 25. The man said he left about 12:30 p.m., arrived home around 11:30 p.m. and noticed the back door unlocked and a letter from the complex maintenance department saying repairs had been made while he was out. A key ring with two keys was found on the floor in the apartment entry way. No signs of forcible entry were found.

Wallet taken from purse. A woman said somebody took a wallet from her purse April 26 and used her ATM card to make two $96 purchases at the Marta station. The woman arrived about 9 a.m. at Great Expressions at 200 E. Ponce de Leon Ave. and placed her purse on the counter in her office. Around noon she noticed her wallet was missing. She called her bank which confirmed the purchases had been made around 10:55 a.m. at the Marta station. Also missing were about $50 cash, a credit card and a driver's license.
