Decatur Ready To Sign Contract on Callaway Property

Decatur will buy the land from DeKalb County so a developer can build a mixed-use project.

The Decatur Urban Redevelopment Agency, composed of city commission members, will meet Monday night to sign a contract on the Callaway Building property.

The property is located at West Trinity Place and McDonough Street, catty corner from city hall.

The city will buy the land from DeKalb County and sell to Cousins Properties, which would demolish the building and convert the property into a mixed-use development.

The sales agreement calls for the city to pay $5,089,300 or $25 per square foot, whichever is greater.

The urban redevelopment agency approved a sales agreement in March but has been doing due diligence on the building and surround five acres.

The meeting will start at 8:30 p.m. or whenever the regular city commission ends. That meeting will start at 7:30 p.m.
