Decatur Schools No. 2 Administrator Leaving

Thomas Van Soelen will start his own consulting firm.

The No. 2 administrator in the City Schools of Decatur is leaving.

Thomas Van Soelen, the assistant superintendent, has resigned to start his own consulting firm, Van Soelen Associates. The firm's website says it will have offices at 1404 Chatsworth Trace in Lawrenceville.

Van Soelen has worked for the City Schools of Decatur since 2005.  Last month he made the short list for the superintendent’s job in Cedar Falls, Iowa, but didn’t get the job.

His last day with the school system is June 28.

Courtney Burnett, spokeswoman for the school system, said Superintendent Phyllis Edwards hasn’t decided who will fill  Van Soelen’s post.  She has a little more than a month.  School starts Aug. 1.
