Decatur Schools Upping Security After Texas School Shooting

City Schools of Decatur sent an email to parents Wednesday saying that safety is a top priority. Decatur police will increase patrols.

DECATUR, GA ? Security presence will be increased in City Schools of Decatur schools this week after the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas on Tuesday.

Decatur parents received an email Wednesday from the district stating that safety is a top priority, a spokesperson told Patch.

Nineteen children and two adults were killed on Tuesday. The shooter, identified as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, of Uvalde entered the school armed with a handgun and rifle. He barricaded himself inside a classroom and opened fire. Ramos was killed in the shooting by law enforcement officers, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said. The remainder of the school year has been canceled.

?We are all grieving for the families and staff who are enduring the pain and suffering caused by yesterday's horrific shooting in Texas,? the email said. ?The safety of the students and staff in City Schools of Decatur is our top priority.

?The Decatur Police Department is a wonderful school partner, and in an abundance of caution they are stepping up patrols in and around our schools for the rest of the week.?
