Decatur Woman Discovers Man Trying To Break In

She said he was trying to open a side door about 11 p.m. He saw her inside and left.

This information comes from Decatur police reports.

Attempted break-in. A woman who lives in the 600 block of East Ponce de Leon Ave. told police that about 11 p.m. May 26 she heard a noise coming from an enclosed porch on the side of the house.

She looked through the double doors that led to the porch and saw a man trying to get inside by pulling the door handle. When he saw the woman, he left.

Police found pry marks on the door and a broken hook on a screen door.

She described the suspect as a white male about 5-foot-10, slightly overweight with blonde hair. He was wearing dark pants and shirt.

They were only gone 10 minutes. Police went to a residence in the 100 block of Park Place about 9:40 a.m. May 23 when an alarm sounded.

Officers found a rear window on the back porch broken. The homeowners arrived and said they'd left the residence about 10 minutes earlier.

The only item missing was a small gold candle holder that was just below the window that was broken.

Bike stolen. A man in the 900 block of South Candler Street told police a bike worth about $350 had been taken from his garage. The garage was accidentally left open May 25 and he noticed the bike missing May 27.
