Decatur's Cremalosa Named Best Ice Cream In Georgia
Food & Wine Magazine chose Cremalosa, which opened in February 2020, to represent Georgia in its "The Best Ice Cream in Every State" list.

DECATUR, GA — A Decatur gelato creamery was named among the nation's best ice cream places by the national Food & Wine Magazine.
The magazine chose Cremalosa as Georgia's representation in its list titled "The Best Ice Cream in Every State," according to a Tuesday news release. The gelateria, founded by gelato master and Atlanta food writer Meridith Ford, opened in February 2020 on East College Avenue, just before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The creamery showcases a dozen rotating flavors of gelato and sorbetto, all spun in-house on a gelato machine imported from Italy. Each flavor is handcrafted from local cream and simple, farm fresh ingredients, the release said, and include a combination of traditional Italian options — such as stracciatella and hazelnut — and creative offerings inspired by southern desserts and iconic American cakes, cookies and penny candy.

“I’m so thrilled and honored to be on Food & Wine’s list,” Ford said. “It’s a dream come true, and we’re excited about the season with the many local summer fruits we have to mix and match for new flavors."
Cremalosa also took home the award for "Best New Gelato" on Atlanta Magazine's annual "Best of Atlanta" list in 2020.
