DeKalb Courts, Jail Get Enhanced Security Systems
The technology updates will guard against unauthorized access, improve activity monitoring, DeKalb sheriff says.

DECATUR, GA — The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office recently completed a major overhaul of its security systems in the County Jail and courthouses, Sheriff Jeffrey Mann announced Tuesday. In recent months, the agency transitioned to a single proprietary system for access to all facilities, and enhanced and expanded surveillance systems to increase coverage areas.
In addition to the DeKalb County Jail, the sheriff’s office provides security at DeKalb County judicial system campuses, which include the DeKalb County Courthouse, the Magistrates Court in the Bobby Burgess Building, and the DeKalb Juvenile Justice Center on Memorial Drive in Decatur
"The updated system standardizes access equipment and incorporates newer technology, reducing security breach risks and enhancing the redundancy of the system’s ability to function if threats should occur," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

“More importantly, we ensure the safety of the individuals who use these facilities,” Mann said. “Last year, that included the more than 1.3 million citizens who visited these locations to conduct business.
"We were there to also protect the hundreds of courtroom participants, such as judges, judicial system employees and attorneys," Mann said. "Finally, we provide for the safety of law enforcement agency employees and the nearly 1,800 inmates at the jail.”
