DeKalb Officials Celebrate Off-Leash Dog Area for Brookside Park
Fenced-in space is three-quarters of an acre and features water fountain, disposable bags and benches.
DECATUR, GA -- DeKalb County officials were on hand Friday to celebrate the opening of an off-leash area for dogs at Brookside Park in Decatur.
The off-leash parcel is three-quarters of an acre and features a water fountain, disposable bags and benches, the county said.
“This was a seven-acre worn-down dilapidated apartment complex, and at the time, we were able to draw down federal funds to acquire the site,” District 6 Commissioner Kathie Gannon said at the event. “Now it’s one of DeKalb County’s newest parks, and instead of this property being a negative force on the surrounding community, it has become an asset."
