DeKalb Poetry Slam Set For This Month

For National Poetry Month, the slam will feature DeKalb County kids from ages 5-17 performing.

DECATUR, GA — Young poets of Decatur and DeKalb County, it's time to get your rhymes (or lack of rhymes, if that's how you roll) ready. In celebration of National Poetry Month, DeKalb County is holding its third-annual poetry slam on Friday, April 27.

Hosted by DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs, the event will be held at 7 p.m. at Mason Mill Recreation Center. The center is at 1340 McConnell Dr. in Decatur.

The poetry slam features young poets and writers from Dekalb "during a special evening that celebrates the power of words, music and the triumph of hope," according to the commission. Admission is $5.

The slam is open to ages 5-17. Registration, at the recreation department's website, ends April 20. You may also register in person at any DeKalb County recreation center.
